Let's Start at the very Beginning

This is the first in a series of blog posts about my upcoming studio work. I will begin teaching in late January 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll, Iowa. Check the rest of the website for details!

Anyone who knows me has probably heard of my passion for teaching early childhood music and movement. I've done it for the last 25 years—and loved all the moments! Young children bring unbridled curiosity, a fierce determination to uncover new things, and an innate joy in their discoveries. There's nothing better than watching their faces light up when they get it!

So that's where I'll begin my new teaching venture. Toddlers and preschoolers are welcome with a parent or caregiver to make music together. We will sing, play instruments, listen and explore—and, of course, MOVE! My goal is to include developmental movement for children who may need to catch up on some moves in a playful way.

Classes begin January 29, and they are starting to fill up, so email me to reserve a spot! Classes need at least 3 students to run.

Costs are listed on the Classes page of the website. We'll meet at the First United Methodist Church in a room on Adams Street.

Take-home materials will be available to continue the fun in teachable moments or daily music time. This Winter 2024 Session is quite short, so we won't do a family sharing session, but we'll plan another class for summer and include one then.

Parents and caregivers should come ready to participate. You are your child's first and best teacher! They can copy anything you model!

However, that doesn't mean you need to be a fantastic musician. I believe in musical skill-building, and I've watched many parents build their own singing and beat-keeping skills along with their children. Whatever you bring will be accepted and developed. This is a safe place to explore! Fair warning, though . . . some parents have called it early childhood music aerobics. We move a lot!!

If you have any questions, please email me at RePattern2Learn@gmail.com. I'm always happy to answer questions!
